Prayer for Revival

“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13

In the next few weeks my focus is going to be on prayer. By God’s grace I will be attending a Prayer Conference in Bloomington Minnesota August 26-30 which is being hosted by Metropolitan Baptist Church. Dr. Benny Beckum will be the speaker.A woman in prayer outside.

For weeks now I’ve been reading books on prayer and I would like to share some of the things that the Lord has taught me. But the thing that I want to encourage most about prayer is to pray.

I don’t know about you but I’ve often been rather disappointed with my own prayer life. Sometimes, because I didn’t know what to pray or what I pray for didn’t quite come to pass. I’m learning that prayer is far more than having the right wording or making a wish and hope that it comes true.

Perhaps you’ve heard this that praying is simply talking to God. But the truth is we cannot talk to someone we don’t really know. At least not in an open type of communication as you would a close friend.

It was has been such a blessing to read Christ in the School of Prayer by Andrew Murray. I have listened to the complete audiobook in the past. But now, with the blessed knowledge God has imparted to me, concerning Himself and tasting and knowing that the Lord is good, what an eye-opener it is to go through it again.

I’m going through the book bit by bit this time both listening to the audio than reading the Kindle for myself. God has highlighted some impacting things I want to share with you.

The model prayer often called The Lord’s Prayer was an amazing encouragement to me.

I know, this can become familiar territory. But I appreciate the lyrics written in this song by Fanny Crosby.

Clearer than ever I see;
Stay, let me weep while you whisper,
“Love paid the ransom for me.”

Truly, clearer than ever I see. Our Lord has been showing me so much of his true love. He has poured so much of Himself that I I read concerning the Lord’s Prayer, I could see clearer.

The reality of knowing God as Father didn’t hit me till years later. But when it did it went from being an accepted fact as a believer in Christ to a permeating reality. I think we often equate knowledge with understanding and that is not necessarily true. It’s great to gain knowledge but often times the understanding takes time to become a reality.

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7

So even before understanding, we must gain wisdom. And as mentioned in last week’s devotional this wisdom must be from above.

“For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:6

It is Good that gives wisdom. It is out of His very mouth where knowledge and understanding come from. Even our desire for wisdom, to know and understand the Lord’s prayer comes from God.

As I challenged a dear close friend of mine, spend the remainder of this day or for you the remainder of this week thinking of God as your Father.

And next week, by God’s grace I will share more on prayer and what our Lord has shown me concerning the Lord’s prayer.

“To have Christ the Son, and the Spirit of the Son, dwelling with us, and revealing the Father, this makes us true, spiritual worshippers.” ~Andrew Murray – Christ in the School of Prayer

To GOD be ALL the GLORY
