When Hope is Miles Away

“Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12

How long before God answers your greatest desire?Hope - Young lady viewing horizon.

It is easy to become discouraged when what you yearn for has not come to pass. There is even a greater discouragement when you know it is God himself that gave you the desire. And during such times you are tempted to question God and begin to lose hope.

“For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.” Psalms 38:15

Could I encourage you, my friend, your beloved Lord will hear you. Be willing to pour out your heart to Him. And don’t hold back or pretend you have it all together. Don’t pretend it does not hurt as much as it does. Or make your situation a light matter by comparing yourself to others who have it “worse” than you.

“My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.” Job 10:1

Ignoring the real heart issue could lead to a hardness of heart. And you may even find that you’ve grown bitter. Yes, you smile but inside your heart grieves with complaint. And then you add guilt to yourself because you are “not” suppose to complain. Thus you put on, what a friend once called, a spiritual front-face. When in all actuality your heart is grieved or perhaps even broken because hope seems like it’s miles away. But what use would it do to pretend and hide from God who sees and knows all?

“I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.” Psalm 142:2

Cry unto your LORD and make your supplication known to Him. Allow Him to deliver you from your bitter state. And don’t accept the lies as Naomi once cried, “Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.” Ruth 1:20 All the while God had blessed Naomi with Ruth who walked beside her. And He had provided for Naomi with hope years prior. But our Lord may allow you to taste the bitter herbs that His blessings may be sweeter to you.

Don’t lose hope, God has not forgotten you.

“…for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto. ” 1 Samuel 1:16

To GOD be ALL the GLORY
